Trying the No Shampoo Thing

My hair has grown quite long in the last few years. It is long and a source of constant frustration. It is thin, breaks super easy and I can't manage to do anything with it. Lately my scalp has felt itchy and icky too. I desperately need a hair cut. I've also come to realize my just isn't very healthy.
So since it is a new year and a time for goals and trying new things I decided to give the whole no shampoo thing a try.
 travel shampoo bottles
I've been using the method I saw the most frequently online, a mixture of 1 Tbsp baking soda to 1 C water for the shampoo part and a mixture of 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of water to condition the ends. I got the little travel bottles above from Target to put my mixtures in. Blue for shampoo since that kind of rhymes.
I that when making the no poo switch it is super important to give it time, at least a month. I'm at the 2 week mark. I heard the first month is really rough. I was expecting it to be really terrible because prior to this I'd been shampooing almost everyday. So far it hasn't been too bad.
I had one day in the first week where it just felt awful, but since then it has been pretty ok. My hair just consistently feels like I skipped a day of shampoo. It feels like I've skipped a second day of shampoo after I've gone about 3-4 days with out the baking soda. Right after I use the baking soda, my hair is starting to almost feel/look ok enough to wear down, but not quite.
boar bristle brush
After that one truly awful day, I went out and got a boar bristle brush.  I'd read it was helpful for cutting down on the greasy oily feelings on the scalp and that it helps spread all your natural hair oils through the rest of your hair. It  think it  made a huge difference since I haven't had a truly awful day since I started using the brush.
So at the halfway point, my hair doesn't seem amazing. It still constantly feels just a little bit too oily and greasy. I've heard it takes at least 4-6 weeks for your hair to adjust though, so I still have hope for good results at the end of that time frame. The adjustment period, so far, hasn't been nearly as bad as I expected it to be. I do miss the bubbles and lather of shampoo.
Has anybody else tried the no shampoo routine? How did it go for you? What did you think?
